A time to celebrate. A time to recognize our students’ achievements.

St. Jerome’s University is proud to honour our graduates at a special Graduation Ceremony that takes place prior to the Spring 2018 University of Waterloo Convocation Ceremony.

The Graduation Ceremony will take place in the Theatre of the Arts in the Modern Languages Building located on the main campus of the University of Waterloo.

There will be a reception to follow at St. Jerome's University, in the Academic Centre Atrium (SJ2).

Students will receive follow-up information on the ceremony and reception as the date approaches.

Please also refer to our Graduation webpage for more information for Graduating Students.

All graduates that are part of our community are invited to attend — those that are academically registered through St. Jerome’s University, those that have lived in our residence, and those that play an active role within our community.

At this event, our students’ academic and co-curricular achievements will be celebrated. Academic awards, university awards, community awards, and our university’s highest award — the Zach Ralston, are presented. Robed in traditional academic gowns, our students will receive a distinctive university ring — a symbol of the circles of connection stretching back to the promises made in the first-year orientation and investiture ceremony, and forward to the ways in which our students will act as agents of profound transformation in our world.

The presentation of rings and awards takes place within the context of a Christian practice called the Liturgy of the Word, in which there are readings from the Judeo-Christian scriptures that invite us to reflect on how the privilege of education calls us to shared social responsibility. A Catholic university like St. Jerome’s is part of the Catholic intellectual tradition, a 2000-year conversation that engages the critical questions of a given time and place, opens itself to all sources of wisdom, welcomes all who want to cultivate their hearts and minds, and educates people to become responsible citizens in the world.
